Our mentor program provides training and support to help at-risk youth get the chance they need and we encourage you to get involved and make a difference with us.

Why?

Video Introduction.

Mentoring youth at risk is rewarding because it’s a chance to help someone learn to be a better person, and it’s also a chance to make a difference in their life. It’s rewarding because you get to see them grow as people. You get to see them become more confident, and you get to see them start believing in themselves. These things can be challenging for kids who feel they have no support system or no one cares about them. Mentoring at-risk youth gives us purpose; we know we’re making a difference.

Warren Brookes

Executive Director.

Warren is particularly passionate about – inspiring, mentoring & assisting in transforming the lives of disenfranchised youth and those recovering from Drug & Alcohol addictions.

For over a decade, he has volunteered in Victorian Prisons, where he is well renowned & respected for the inspiration he provides to inmates.

Warren has been a leader in Victorian Area Peer Support and Self-Help Groups. Warren has initiated & coordinated various significant events for these organisations, such as Conventions and Workshops.

Among other careers, Warren has also been employed by Alcohol and Drug Awareness Australia, presenting to large employer groups and providing advice & solutions on problematic drug & alcohol addiction in their workforces.

It is fair to say Warren’s other lifetime passion is Cars & Bikes. Warren also has a Diploma in AOD and Mental Health.

Michael Sgro.

Chairman.

Michael is a recently retired businessman from the housing industry, previously having been a builder, developer & involved in property development & sales. He has spent 35 years involved in not for profit organizations  for those affected by addiction.

He was a founding Board member of ‘SHARC’, spent 8 years as chairman & was Chief Executive Officer for 2 years, letting go of his business interests to guide the Organization during a difficult time. SHARC has a number of Programs, a youth Housing & rehabilitation service; a Family service; an advocacy arm, & has run Programs in all Victorian Prisons.

Michael was a Board member of Rotary International South Melbourne for a number of years.

Peter Cullen.

Director.

The Founder of Reclink Australia, Peter has served as a Director for that Organization since 1990. 

Having initially trained for Catholic Priesthood and working for the Sacred Heart Mission for over 15 years, Peter has always been passionate about improving the lives of people experiencing disadvantage, through sport and arts.

An avid Geelong supporter, Peter is married with three children and has been a recipient of numerous awards, including an Order of Australia Medal (2000), Centenary Medal (2003), Sports

Chaplaincy Australia Award for Compassion in Sport (2011), Sports Star of the Year (Southern Region Services to Sport (2001) and Tattersall’s Award for Enterprise and Achievement (1997).

Tom Morphett.

Director.

Tom is a young passionate menswear designer with an innate ability to connect with people. 

He is an entrepreneur and a successful businessman with his own fashion label.

Through Tom’s experience coming from having had an ambivalent relationship with himself, and his desires for life.

He knows what if feels like to need a bit of a push in the right direction. Tom enjoys facilitating that process.

Tom is committed to making a difference in people’s lives, particularly disenfranchised youth, through ways that might be slightly more “fashionable” than those previously offered to the struggling adolescent.

Carmine

Carmine de Maria.

Founding Member.

Carmine is the founder and owner of Cad Customs, with over 20 years of experience transforming Classic Cars. 

He is passionate about custom cars, hot rods and Classic car restoration & transformation.

He believes that through Crossroad Customs, importantly he will be part of the process in the transformation of peoples’ lives. Carmine has a deep conviction for youth and community.

Kylie Phillip-Collins.

Founding Member.

Kylie is passionate about supporting young people to see them reach their full potential.

With 15 years on the front lines as a social worker, Kylie has vast experience working with high-risk adolescents, AOD, domestic violence and homelessness.

She went on to become an enrolled psychiatric nurse and has 5 years of experience working with young people teaching dialectal behavioural therapy skills in that role.

Vito Sgro.

Secretary.

Vito is a dedicated professional with deep knowledge of management procedures.

Having worked for over 30 years for major corporate accounting companies including public

registered companies, and as a senior project manager in the building industry, he has a proficient understanding of management systems with strong attention paid to detail, organisation, and company procedures.
